Dr. Luis Mariano Palena holds a degree in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Bologna (Italy), where he specialized in Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology.
Since March 2010, he has dedicated himself exclusively to limb interventional radio logy, specializing in Chronic Limb-Threatening Ischemia (CLTI) and diabetic foot complications.
In 2010, he began developing and refining advanced endovascular techniques to treat occluded arteries, pioneering the application of automated CO2 angiography and new below-the-knee (infrapopliteal) and pedal revascularization strategies. Since then, he has traveled the globe expanding these techniques and training thousands of surgeons and interventionalists.

In 2017, he founded CLI Courses (CLIC), the only international CLTI conference based on live-streamed cases.
Every year, surgeons and interventionalists from more than 20 countries¡ (Argentina, Mexico, Ve nezuela, Colombia, Canada, United Kingdom, Sweden, Kuwait, Ukraine, Spain, and others) attend to learn directly from Dr. Palena’s most complex cases.
More than 1,000 physicians have been
trained in his international courses.
In Italy, he developed the first international fellowship program in interventional radio logy focused exclusively on CLTI, tibial, and pedal arteries, where he has trained more than 100 specialists since 2017.
He regularly collaborates with the University of Zaragoza as a professor for the Master’s in Endovascular Therapy and has taught at the National Autono mous University of Mexico (UNAM).
In Hungary, he is a Visiting Pro fessor at the Budapest Univer sity.
While most surgeons consider that less than 15-20% of CLTI cases are NOT trea table endovascularly, Dr. Palena has proven that it is possible to preserve limbs in cases that others considered "inoperable."
In his 15,000+ procedures, less than 5% of his patients require major amputation. This success rate is significantly higher than international standards.
He has developed and described new techniques that are now standard practice in global interventional radiology.
